Description
As members of the independent filmmaking community, we believe in the transformative power of cinema. Film has an undeniably transcendent quality: it uplifts, it transports, and it connects us to other people, places, and issues. So perhaps that is why it has proven to be an apt medium to explore topics of a spiritual nature. A rash of recent films have taken on religious themes directly, but they constitute only a narrow sliver of what might be called the metaphysics of filmmaking. Our “In the Realm of the Spirit” issue features anime women who leap through time, stop motion puppet masters, a dharma punk, an occultist legend, and one seriously delusional film-loving preacher. Please walk with us through dreamlike landscapes, accordion-shaped time zones, and other footprints of the spirit.
